April 2026

President’s Corner

Dear Members,

May and June will be soon upon us and on June 27 and 28th we are looking to participate in the 2026 ARRL Summer Field Day. We have committee members looking in several areas to host this event. Our focus on location is improved public participation. March meeting, we voted and approved to add Tech Day to the event as well.

This event is where we all can bring tech we have made or have used in Amateur Radio Communications to spur our curiosity and further our education and skills as radio operators. If you are interested in participating in this event, please reach out to us and get plugged in.

Upcoming Events:

Monthly Club Meeting

Date: May 9, 2026

Time: 7:00 PM

Location: Johnson County Emergency Operations Center.

Agenda: Discussing Summer Field Day which is June 27th and 28th. We voted to combine Tech Day and Summer Field Day together. Looking for members to be on a committee to provide the members with their ideas and what we would like to focus on during that weekend. If you are interested in being on the committee, email me at k5yiv@w5jcr.com.

Technical Corner:

In the realm of amateur radio, antennas are a fundamental component that significantly influences communication quality and range. Whether you are using a dipole, Yagi, or vertical antenna, understanding their design and functionality can greatly enhance your operating experience. A well-tuned antenna not only maximizes signal transmission and reception but also minimizes interference. Experimenting with different antenna configurations and placements can lead to improved performance and coverage. As we explore various frequencies and modes this month, consider evaluating your antennas and possibly trying new designs to optimize your station’s capabilities.

Get Involved!

We are always looking for volunteers for events and activities. If you are interested in contributing or having ideas for future club projects, please reach out! If you would like to present a radio operator topic, reach out, we would like to learn from you!
