Fox Hunt Saturday Aug 1st (8am to noon)
somewhere in johnson county
We will be having a FOX HUNT Saturday August 1st Starting at 8 am and will go till 12 noon. The event will start off on the 145.490 Repeater, where we will give instructions and frequency the FOX is transmitting on. We would like to take check-ins just so we know when everyone has found the FOX to end the event.
The FOX will be in Johnson County and will be in a public place. At the beginning I will give a Hint as to where it might be. Every 30 mins I will give another hint.
The 145.490 repeater will NOT be in net mode so feel free to talk amongst yourselves. We only Ask to NOT GIVE AWAY THE FOX LOCATION.
When You Find the FOX, there will be an sheet with instructions as to how to notify us that you have found the FOX
A simple Yagi antenna is a helpful in this event. BUT is not nessesary. If you don’t have one, reach out to us, we do have some Tape measure Yagi Kits left over.
Rules are simple, use your radio receiver and find the Fox.
#1 Rule: Have Fun and be safe!
Simple Hint for now. Youtube search “FOX HUNT HAM RADIO” they will give you ideas on ways to find the FOX
Tell your friends, this can be for anyone, not just club members. Since this is just “listening “ and not transmitting to find the FOX, ANYONE can do it, no license required!!

Spend a day cramming for the FCC Technician License, learning the test and then taking the FCC Technician Test to achieve your license. We will go over the test questions which takes most the day and test at the end of the day.
We recommend you go over the test questions before this day to be familiar with the material before the cram test. We have had great success with this method. The cram is free, but the test is $15, payable on the day of the test.
If you are interested in attending the cram and test, please email K5YIV@W5JCR.com and let us know you would like to attend the course. Please register on the FCC website and obtain your FRN number to bring with you on the cram and test day. FCC Registration – Login . Now you have your Amateur Radio license, now what?
September 19, 2026 (8am to noon) JohnSon county EOC
Location: 810 E. Kilpatrick, Cleburne.
This open forum allows you to ask questions to other Amateur Radio Operators about the hobby and how to start being active in communications. This course is designed to provide you direction or opportunities from types of equipment or areas of the hobby you are interested in knowing.
The hobby has so many avenues and different options to get started and having someone sit down with you and discuss your desires in the hobby can help you with the best direction for you. We will have some equipment there to look and even operate and have several HAMs with different uses of the hobby to help you on your journey. If you would like to attend, just email K5YIV@W5JCR.com and we will send a reminder a week before the event.
